Even though filters do not use any advanced technology, they are still quite effective. Most filters can remove 98% to 99.9% of airborne contaminants, as viruses and bacteria make up very little of the total contaminant ratio.
When it comes to filters, you have two basic options. The first is the well known HEPA filter, which is used in many HVAC equipment. There is also the MERV filter, which cannot remove as many contaminants as a HEPA filter. However, the benefit of a MERV is that it is much faster than a HEPA, and can purify air at a quicker rate.
